A member may need a certain department status, rank, field-training completion, prior certification, or instructor approval before entering specialty training.
Training · Qualifications
Specialty access should be earned and explainable.
ASRP qualifications and certifications are intended to connect advanced capability to documented training and current authorization. A title alone should not automatically unlock every vehicle, tool, specialty assignment, or operational permission.
Qualification model
Train, verify, authorize, maintain.
Exact certifications are department-configurable. Nexus is being designed so qualifications can eventually contribute directly to effective permissions rather than living as disconnected notes.
Learn the specialty capability.
Instruction should cover the role, equipment, limitations, procedures, safety expectations, and scenario application relevant to the qualification.
Demonstrate competency.
The member shows they can perform the specialty task consistently rather than receiving access solely for attending a class.
Connect the record to access.
Once approved, the qualification can support department assignment, roster status, vehicle or equipment permissions, or other configured capabilities.
Examples
Different disciplines need different qualifications.
The public website intentionally avoids declaring a fixed certification catalog because department structures and available systems continue to evolve.
Law-enforcement specialties
Examples can include instructor roles, investigations, K-9, aviation, marine operations, tactical assignments, specialty vehicles, or other department-approved functions.
Fire & EMS specialties
Examples can include apparatus operation, EMS levels, rescue functions, incident command, specialty response, or other department-defined capabilities.
Communications
Call-taking, radio positions, dispatch disciplines, supervisory functions, or advanced system access can use their own qualification requirements.
Instructor permissions
Being qualified to perform a role does not automatically mean a member is qualified to teach or evaluate it. Instructor authorization can be maintained separately.
Expiration & renewal
Where appropriate, a qualification can expire, require refresher training, or be suspended when a member no longer meets the standard.
Auditability
Future connected records should make it clear who granted a qualification, when it was earned, what it authorizes, and why it changed.
